This collection offers an intimate glimpse into the rural lifestyle on a working cutting horse ranch in the 21st century. The sport of cutting dates back to the early 1800-s and evolved out of the cowboys' daily routines when running cattle on the range. Cattle are therefore essential to the training process of a cutting horse. Along with feeding cattle, the Cow-man also administers medicines and vaccines to keep the herds healthy. This collection shows the stark contrast between modernization and the nature of the Cowboy’s work.
The Natural Horse
I have been drawn to horses as far back as I can remember, ever since I was a little girl. This attraction and fascination strengthened as I grew older and has shaped my life in many ways. There is an undeniable bond between women and horses that I believe can be partly attributed to women's intuitive and empathetic nature and, on a deeper level lies within women's ability to relate to the horse as a herd and prey animal, driven by instinct. But the horse is also a source of power and motion, a gateway to freedom.
By stripping the subjects of all artifacts that society imposes on us, the horse and woman find common ground. They are equals. Naked is the way we come into this world, innocent and uninhibited, before society slowly distances us from this realm of pure spirit, and into a material one.
